4 out of 5 stars Like this One A Lot - a review of George & Martha "Back in Town"   March 20, 2007

"Back in Town" is a cute book and one of our current favorites. My son (just turned 5) thinks it is absolutely hysterical. My daughter (7) likes it as well but not to the same extent -- in other words she doesn't ask for it to be read three times in a row -lol.

"Back in Town" contains 5 stories:
The Box
The High Board
The Trick
The Job
The Book

The Box is about a small box, a label that says "Don't Open", and curiosity.
The High Board is about what a friend will do to help you out.
The Trick (my son's favorite) is about turning the tables on a prankster.
The Job is about how it can be hard to command the respect of one's close friends.
The Book is about compassion and friendship.

Four Stars. Great Read-aloud. As with all George and Martha books the central theme is friendship in all it's manifestations. Artwork is cute and simple and large. With younger children be prepared to explain what's happening and what the themes are. Mr. Marshall doesn't hit you over the head with them, which has the advantage of giving a children the opportunity to deal with subtlety.
