Amazon.com Review
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. But are you rotten enough to ruin Whoville's Christmas Whobilation this year, even after Cindy Lou Who nominates you to be the Cheermeister of the event? Based on Dr. Seuss's wacky and wonderful classic picture book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the motion picture screenplay of the same name, this novelization elaborates on the story of a holiday gone awry. Little Cindy Lou Who, her cheerfully dopey dad, Lou Lou Who, her semi-delinquent teenage brothers Stu and Drew Lou Who, the Martha Stewartesque Martha May Whovier, and the nastiest, most cynical, evil-hearted Grinch around star in this Christmas comedy. Seventeen color photos from the film are included. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

4 out of 5 stars A religious conversion guide for young readers   August 23, 2010

That may be a bit harsh, but as with many of Dr. Seuss' classics, _How the Grinch Stole Christmas_ can be read on more than one level. The Grinch himself is, after all, an anti-Christmas zealot so threatened by the Whos' enjoyment of Christmas that he resorts to trespassing and grand larceny.

The final irony is that _How the Grinch Stole Christmas_ *does* make an excellent choice for young children despite its religious message--the townsfolk display Job-like patience in the face of a seemingly ruined holiday--because it validates freedom of religion. Furthermore, the book rewards pacifism on both sides, as the Whos get everything back (and perhaps more significantly, win a convert in the process!) while the Grinch is never brought up on charges and instead joins in the celebratory feast. Pass the roast beast!

The heavy-handed lesson? All you need is (pun intended) a CHANGE OF HEART.

I got this for my nephew for Christmas, unfortunately I never gave it to him because when I received the book it had crayon colored all over the inside.

Excellent book to use to compare and contrast the reading of books vs. watching movies

The book was exactly what I had expected, however the shipping took a lot longer than I though it should have.
