Product Description "An exemplary and eloquently written story that makes it easy for nonbelievers in intuition to believe. You must read this book." – Psychology Today
Now with a new foreword from the author, New York Times bestselling author Dr. Judith Orloff tells her remarkable life story and teaches you how to recognize and trust your own intuitive gifts to improve your life—and the lives of those around you. In this updated edition, Dr. Orloff reflects on her career and the sea change that modern medicine and psychiatry have experienced since Second Sight was first published. She expands her earlier ideas and further explores intuition’s role in maintaining physical health and emotional well-being, using examples from her own and her patients’ lives. This is both a remarkable self-portrait of one woman’s journey toward the acceptance of intuition as a therapeutic tool, and a comprehensive look at how you, too, can develop your intuition, transform your health, and revolutionize your everyday life. "Orloff is a true visionary. She is the kind of physician we wish we all had." – Caroline Myss, Ph.D., author of Sacred Contracts "Second Sight is a page turner...controversial. It shares the struggles and successes of a courageous physician who fights against a skeptical medical system to validate the power of intuition. You will find a new friend in Judith as her writing is as intimate as if she was talking to you in her living room." —Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., author of Mending the Mind, Minding the Spirit
"Judith Orloff is a seriously talented storyteller, and her book moves like a thriller...Forgive me this moment of intuition, but this book feels right." –Jesse Kornbluth, Huffington Post

Gentle Guidance July 5, 2010 Carol L. Dagenet (Apache Junction, AZ United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am enjoying reading this book. The stories are interesting and inspire me to nurture my intuition. Dr Judith teaches us in gentle ways that we too can be more intuitive and where to start. An easy read for the curious.
Very interesting and exceptionally well-written June 26, 2010 Jeff Maziarek, author of Spirituality Simplified (Chicago, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In this wonderful book Dr. Orloff tells a fascinating, insightful, and forthright tale of her life as a very gifted intuitive. Her willingness to bare her soul regarding her experiences growing up with intuitive abilities is admirable, and the quality of the writing is nothing less than exceptional. As I read the book I honestly got the sense at times that she was sitting across from me in my own living room talking to me as an old friend would. The many stories she relates about how she's been able to successfully integrate conventional medical/psychiatric care with her intuitive skills make for very interesting reading indeed. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the entire subject of intuition.
A "must read" for therapists! June 18, 2010 laura neville (kansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having read "Positive Energy" by Dr. Orloff I was eager to learn more of her life story and how she was able to successfully merge two divergent worlds-medicine and the world of intuition. As a mental health practitioner for 30 years ( in traditional settings) I have frequently wondered if the field was missing a core piece in terms of healing. But mental health practitioners in traditional settings often encounter skepticism or ridicule when the idea of intuition is raised in a clinical setting. Often, the idea of paranormal or intuition is not mentioned out loud but discussed quietly among accepting colleagues. Finding "Second Sight" was particularly exciting for me because Dr. Orloff utilizes both her academic training and her innate intuitive abilities. A trained psychiatrist who combines the best of both worlds!
Judith Orloff reminds all of us that there is much in healing that can transcend scientific data originating from the rational or linear brain. In telling her own fascinating story, she illustrates that often people can be dismissed or written off as emotionally/ psychiatrically disturbed when intuitive experiences are wrongly viewed as pathological or dysfunctional. It is a poignant comment about how quickly the professionals can slap a label on a person who may be struggling to understand their own emerging intuitive abilities. It also reminds us that the "helping professions" are sometimes not so helpful.
If Dr. Orloff merely told the story of her life journey- the book would be worth reading for that piece alone. But wrapped in the context of her own story are important insights about how we view reality- and how each individual has the seed of intuition- just waiting to be nurtured. There are sections also that are quite helpful in terms of guiding the reader through exercises to facilitate intuitive growth.
I love this book-and will continue to give to friends...Can hardly wait for the movie!! And there really should be a film about this special life...

I loved this book June 17, 2010 Treacy Meyer (Perth, Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dr Orloff's Second Sight captivated me from the first chapter. She goes into her early life and confusion surrounding her intution to her adult life and decision to become a Doctor. I found the accounts of her intuitive experiences fascinating. Dr Orloff is very honest about her life as an intuitive and Psychiatrist and how she managed to combine both to be the incredible healer that she is today. She also provides some great tools for developing your own intuition. I would recommend this for biography readers and people interested in intuition generally.
An Outstanding Dissertation Regarding the Connections between Intuitive Nature and Psychaitry June 3, 2010 L. Busch (Daytona Beach) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dr. Orloff not only personalizes her journey with detailed recollections of dreams and childhood incidences, she shares insights on how to be patient with ones self. She gives us permission to be ourselves. Dr. Orloff has taken a look at how an intuitive nature and psychiatry are related, and can be used to effectively heal. Dr. Orloff is professional and down to earth in her portrayal. She does not deny human nature, but teaches us how to work with our own natures, to cultivate our own natural abilities. She describes her own trials and tribulations, as well as her own ultimate success in overcoming preconceived societal pitfalls, while coming healthily into her own person. She illustrates how to heal the body, and the mind.
Dr. Orloff's Second Sight has helped me tap into my own intuitive nature and begin healing myself after decades of internal frustration and pain. The book is divided into two parts, as she gently leads the reader though her life, and her discoveries. Part one shares her journey; Part two teaches the reader how to tap into his or her own intuitive nature.
This is a book like no other I have read - it teaches one how to use his or her own inner wisdom for good. It took much for Dr. Orloff to stand up for such a controversial topic. I commend her for writing this book. It has truly opened my eyes and reminded me that I need not concern myself with what others think - but to be true to my self, and my nature. Dr. Orloff is a truly gifted woman. Bless her for sharing such intimate details in order to help the whole. People could learn so much from her, just through that one action of humanity.
Finally - Dr. Orloff writes from a human perspective without cluttering it up with medical terminology and confusing elitist rhetoric. A most pleasant read indeed. I only wished there was more to read - I will have to order her other books now!
