Muck is working at Farmer Pickles place but the job takes too long and it is not finished in one day. Muck is offered the chance to stay the night on the farm and therefore save on travel time the next day. Muck thinks this is a great idea. Great, that is, until night falls and Muck discovers just how quiet and dark it is on the farm. To make things worse, Spud thinks it is fun to make scary noises in the dark. Now Muck us not sure he made the right decision.

Meanwhile bob is working on installing lights in a tunnel. This has to be done at night. Well, his boeing out late and Muck's fear of the quiet and dark come together and Bob comes up with an idea to fix the problem. In the end all is well and everyone is happy. I assume Muck finished the job the next day.

This is a pretty good story. It not only shows how the unfamiliar can be scary, but it also shows how some people think it is fun to scare others. Unfortunately, scare of the dark stories seldom confront the problem, they just avoid it. That is the case here as well. Much does not learn how to accept the dar, the dark is eliminated by bringing in light. But since this is a standard ploy in such stories and not a lone instance, I won't hold it against the story. Check it out.
